Why We Use 16 Seasons
Most colour analysis uses a 4-season model: Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter. Some other use the 12-season model. They are a useful foundations, but even the advanced model leaves a significant grey area, a wide range of complexions and colour profiles that simply don't fit cleanly into four broad categories. For many people, that grey area is exactly where they sit, which is why their results have always felt approximate or off.
The ByFERIAL 4×4 Color System (16 Seasons)® resolves this by breaking each of the four original seasons into four highly specific sub-categories: Pure, Tinted, Toned, and Shaded. The 4×4 Color System (16 Seasons)® expands every season into four specific sub-seasons by adding one critical dimension: modifier intensity.
Each base season is further defined as Pure, Tinted, Toned, or Shaded. These modifiers describe how much of a particular quality your colouring carries: how much warmth, how much depth, how much chroma (colour clarity, meaning whether your natural colouring is soft and muted or bright and vivid).
You don't get a season. You get a precise colour signature that harmonises with your actual biology.
The result is 16 precise sub-seasons instead of 4 approximate ones. You don't just get told you're an Autumn. You're told you're a Toned Autumn, a distinction that completely changes which shades actually work for you.
